Whether you have an established garden or are starting from scratch, learn how to use wildflowers in your garden. We’ll recommend wildflowers which complement your favourite annuals and perennials, those that provide vital habitat and forage for butterflies and bees, and talk you through how and when to grow from seed. There are wildflower species for every garden, no matter whether your outdoor space is big or small
The sessions are suitable for novice gardeners and more seasoned pros, and will be focused on you and your specific interests. Below is an outline of the topics that can be covered in the hour-long sessions:
- Planting Design – Want to learn how to use wildflowers alongside more traditional garden plants? After a discussion about your gardening goals and looking at your existing garden’s structure, seasonality and colour, Tabi will recommend wildflower pairings to complement your chosen scheme. She’ll even help you design a border, raised bed, or series of patio pots from scratch.
- How to plant for pollinators – Great British butterflies have struggled this year, with conservation charity Butterfly Conservation publishing data that shows numbers hitting a record low. Charlotte will talk to you about wildflowers which support the butterfly and bee species likely to be found in your local area. You’ll learn how to create and manage wildflower habitats in the garden, when to cut back, how to propagate annuals, and how to separate perennials to share with friends. From growing nectar-rich flowers to maintaining vital winter habitats, she’ll give you a blue-print to bring more pollinators into your garden.
- Planting for an edible harvest – Just a few hundred years ago it was commonplace to find wildflowers in home remedies and recipes. Some of the wildflowers we all see growing in hedgerows and road verges were used to alleviate symptoms of the common cold, respiratory infection, even menopause. Others were harvested to add flavour to soups and stews…. Sadly a lot of that knowledge has been forgotten. Tabi and Charlotte will give you the tools to plan your own edible garden, using wildflowers as a starting point, so that you can learn how to use wildflowers in your garden and reap the rewards of a nutrient-rich harvest.
